Renaissance Manuscript
Originating in Italy and dating as far back as AD 400 to 600, the art history of illuminated manuscripts is divided into many classifications. This paper’s design resembles those manuscripts from the Renaissance period. While all of these designs featured text, decorative initials and miniature illustrations, they also had to include gold or silver leaf in order to be considered “illuminated”. While the use of gold in this Renaissance design is by far the most captivating element, the bold use of color against the antiqued parchment background truly captures the essence of that era.
