Melook Black

This paper’s design was inspired by the net-like surface texture of melons, thus the Japanese name “Melook” meaning “the look of melons”. After forming a random web of cotton strings on a frame, wet mulberry fiber is applied and “caught” by the strings, creating an open-meshed lace pattern. The wet sheet is then dried on the frame to set the pattern, which is unique to each handmade sheet. Melook’s texture is great for use in interior design projects such as lampshades or wall hangings, adds interest to collage, bookmaking and more.
