Introducing our Phase One Collection for 2008: 26 NEW Black Ink Papers from Japan, Thailand, Nepal, the Republic of China, and the Philippines
Just introduced at the Craft and HobbyAssociation tradeshow in February, these new papers add even more great designs to our Black Ink line of papers. Ranging from soft pink watermarks, to taffeta metallics, dotted batiks, hieroglyphs, and more we think you’ll find this to be one of our most interesting collections yet. Take a look below to browse these new additions.
NEW Black Ink Papers:
“Pink Blossoms”
Watermark from Japan This charming floral design has an almost engraved appearance, with its watermark “sculpted” into the pulp of the paper. A nice text weight, the design side is made with fine white fibers allowing tones of pink to show through, while the back side is a deep solid pink, making it great for reversible use.
“Kiranami” Brushstroked Papers From Thailand For those of you who love our Thai momi papers, you will find the crinkled texture of these Kiranami papers to be very similar. The hand-brushed design, featuring interlaced wavy lines of metallic gold and silver, was inspired by the Japanese term “Kiranami”, which means “sunlight reflecting off of the ocean waves”.
“Euroscript” From Thailand Primitive quotes, inspired by the famous German writer Goethe, appear as flowing script with a “Cezanne-esque” flair, hence the name “Euroscript”. Metallic gold heart-shaped ginkgo leaves, printed beneath the script, add the perfect romantic touch to this poetic design. This mulberry paper makes a gorgeous journal or book cover. Its lightweight unryu quality also makes it great for layering, decoupage, lampshades and more.
“Whimzy” From Thailand This whimsical design features funneling whirls of raised pulp, adding texture and dimension to this remarkably thin, mulberry paper. Deckle edges add beauty to this paper’s handmade quality and the sheerness of the base paper makes it wonderful for use on lampshades, glass lamps or luminarias. Also great for window shades, layering in craft projects, card making, fine art collage, book covering and more.
“Shiborizome” Thai-Dyes from Thailand Based on demand we’ve added three more colors of this soft crinkled mulberry paper to our “Thai-Dye” series. These retro papers bring a flashback to the’60’s, with their hippy-chic sunburst designs. Our new colors include in a splashy purple, a warm sienna or a laid-back grey/black combo.
“Natural Lokta” From Nepal As popular as our natural Thai mulberry’s have been, we think this natural colored lokta paper will be just as popular. With its subtle texture and fiber inclusions, the handmade quality alone is something to be appreciated. This natural based paper provides an acid-free “blank canvas”, great for art applications such as block printing and screen printing, as well as for inkjet and laser printing. Lokta paper is an eco-friendly “tree-free” paper, derived from the lokta bush, also called the daphne bush. Growing around 6-9,000 feet up in the Himalayan region of Nepal, this bush completely regenerates in about 4 years, after being cut down to about 6" from the ground. Lokta papermaking provides a reliable revenue stream for the village artisans of Nepal's rural and urban areas.
“LotsaDots” From Nepal The name LotsaDots says it all! These handmade batiks blend the perfect palette of funky colors together using a unique splattered technique and a semi-transparent dye, over a hand blocked beeswax dot design. Once the colors have dried, the papers are ironed to remove the wax for the finished result. A nice medium bodied weight, these textured papers lend themselves to many forms of paper arts.
“Oodles of O’s” From R.O.C. TaiwanOodles of o’s seem to float like tiny lifesavers across these papers, changing in tone as the light reflects from the unique metallic finish. In a crisp, text weight these papers are perfect for layering on card stock, invitations and more. All three colors are laser printable.
“Taffeta Moiré” From R.O.C. TaiwanThese incredible new papers capture the lustrous sophistication and sheen of real taffeta moiré fabric. An elegant choice for use in invitations and card making, these also make gorgeous book covers and gift-wrap. Available in three stunning colors.
“Ellipses” From R.O.C. Taiwan This fun metallic paper resembles a “sea of coins”, featuring ellipses of contrasting copper tones that change as the light reflects from them. A contemporary design, great for use in invitations, card making, and a variety of paper crafts.
“Chen Wang” and “Egyptian Hieroglyphs” From R.O.C. Taiwan These Taiwan papers feature two of our most interesting screen prints. Subtle embossing adds dimension, while the small graphics intrigue you to further study these designs. Our Chen Wang paper features Chinese surnames running throughout, like multi-directional street names. The Egyptian Hieroglyphs capture the essence of that time period, with an aged antique-gold finish.
“Non-Woven Sheens” From the Philippines Fine, spun fibers give these non-woven papers a remarkable, sheened finish. Although extremely lightweight, they are surprisingly strong. Their semi-sheer quality makes them a great choice for use in craft projects such as lampshade or glass candle covers. For a more opaque deeper color, simply layer them.
“Deckled Paper Accents”
from Thailand Available in six great colors, these lacy accents are perfect for adding “peek-through” texture to fine art and collage, as well as for embellishing cards, crafts, home decor, lampshades and more!
